It's been a LONG time since I've updated. Seriously though how often can you really write about this when not much changes.
I noticed about 10 months ago that my periods for the most part have essentially stopped. Yes! That's right. I didn't think that was ever going to happen. It took a long time but yes, finally!
I still seem to spot during the week I used to get my period but most months I just use a pantyliner. I still get cramps like I'm having a period every few months, but just minus the period.
This past month I had a bit more spotting but still not much even compared to a light period. Back during the end of November I had excruciating cramps for a couple of days but hardly any spotting.
So all in all I'd say the Mirena was a success for me.
Here's a question that I've seen many people have about Mirena and that is: Did I gain any weight?
The first year my weight stayed the same. The 2nd year I gained some weight but honestly I can't attribute it to Mirena. I got less active during the winter and started eating more junk. I'm in my third year now and gained a few more pounds but that's due to the junk food and I think some of being that I have Hashimoto's and my thyroid was majorly out of whack which it has been for a while.
I had my TSH tested the end of October and it was 46. Yikes! Before that I was barely in range at 4.45. I've been complaining for a while to my Doc that I haven't felt like myself and I thought it was my thyroid. Unfortunately he refused to really listen to my complaints for the most part. For years I have been at the other end of the range (less then 1) and I did good in that range. Two years ago he reduced my thyroid meds and told me my TSH was too low and I didn't really check it out. So that explains a lot.
I finally went to see another Dr. and now my dosage has been raised back up. I will update again soon on my hopefully weight loss.
So while I would love to blame the Mirena on my weight gain, I can't.
